This Thanksgiving, we’d like to give thanks to all our readers and customers of The New Moon. As our one-year anniversary approaches, we feel endlessly grateful for the chance to touch your lives, and it is an emotion that we genuinely experience every day, with every click of a story, or crystal purchase, or Instagram “like”.

Today, we chose to reach out to four people in the wellness world, offering them a chance to share what makes them grateful on a daily basis. To thank them for their responses, The New Moon has penned a personalised gratitude mantra for each of them as well, to kickstart a regular gratitude practice and set an example for how any of us can answer these prompts, too – whether mentally or by journaling – and use them to create our own mantras to enhance our lives.

SAFFIE NG

A personal trainer, yoga & meditation teacher, model and nutrition coach, Saffie Ng radiates positivity via her Instagram account – you wouldn’t imagine that a number of years ago, she suffered from severe depression following a debilitating motorcycle accident that left her physically and emotionally broken. Travelling to India, she rediscovered her will to live meaningfully and mindfully, and now dedicates her time to sharing her zest for life with clients, friends and followers.

An act of kindness someone has shown me…

The midwife in Belitung, my saviour who was sent from above. I met her at the very place I had my most serious motorcycle accident. Even though she was a midwife and in fact she did not speak a word of English, she chose to use her thread and needles to sew up my biggest wounds. I had nine abrasions and was unconscious at the time. Not only did she do her best to help me, but afterwards she gave me her rare expensive medicines without asking for anything in return. It was only later that I found out that the medicine that she gave me was her six-month supply. This event in my life is the biggest act of kindness that I’ve ever had the privilege and honour to experience and receive.

Someone who made a positive difference in your life…

My guru, my family from Rishikesh, Dr Gaurav Agrawal. At the time, I was lost. With no direction and with many people advising me not to travel alone to India, I braved doubt, and many other oppositions, and took this once-in-a-lifetime journey of enlightenment. Once there, I experienced no shortage of difficulties. But one very very important thing that I took away from this journey was that “happiness is within”, and all I have to do is to remember this. We have very little control over so much in our lives, but if you clear your mind and centre your soul; everything you need is within you.

Someone who inspires me…

My mother, because she never had any resources. All she had was knowledge. The very words she said to me were, “With everything that I have, I can only take you so far, the rest of the journey you need to fight for yourself.”

The New Moon’s gratitude mantra for Saffie

I am grateful to be guided by guardian angels who appear before me when I need them most, and for the strength I also have within me that allows me to live my life bravely.
